    Hi Jim

This is another excellent example of modern-day marketing using the Internet.

However I didn\’t realise that there must be some kind of collaborative arrangement between eBay and Google for the search engine to give priority to Featured products on eBay.

You can use eBay not only to sell products, but also publicise your business as well. However, does eBay try to draw a line between reasonable promotion and blatant advertising?

    Keep these gems coming!

    Geoff

[[reply from Jim]]: Hi Geoff - eBay is actually VERY protective of what I refer to as \”traffic flow\”. They want traffic to stay on eBay for obvious reasons, but eBay also has many very high profile businesses and partners that sell on eBay and want to get as much business exposure as possible for the website they represent. There is a tug of war between eBay and those that seek to gain marketing exposure from eBay. The rules change frequently. In the good \’ol days you could put links right to your website in your auctions! Currently you have to be a bit more precautious and creative, but there are still many ways to gain exposure and traffic from eBay without violating any policies. That\’s a lot of what my book \”The Silent Sales Machine\” is  about. Pay attention to eBay\’s \”links policies\” to stay informed.

[[reply from admin]] : sounds like you are trying to click on the wrong link - point your mouse at the spot that says \”click here\”. You are clicking on the title of the article.

    Jim Is “Right On” again…

Wonderful information, I checked on a few of my “Featured” listing and while I did not make the first page, I did make the 4th position of the second page.

This is info I never knew about but now that I do I will be more carefully choosing keywords in my title descriptions.

    Jim, Your awesommme !!!

Jim, Great tip! $20 for this type of Google exposure, and more importantly, exposure to your aution/newsletter ect, is nothing. I purchased your books: Silent Sales Machines, and Auction traffic a few months ago and I am now putting what I learned in to action. Your integrity and no bull approach has motivated me. Thanks for the service and value you provide. Sincerest Thanks

    Hi Jim,
I just took a look at your video about getting traffic with featured eBay auctions.
    That’s quite a revelation.

I never knew Google ranked eBay’s listings in their results.

I list some my auctions as featured.
Maybe I should be more aware as to the keywords in my auction title.
It looks like I could be ranked high up there as well.

I really do appreciate the time and effort you put in to help us..

    Thanks so much,

    Hello,
The video is well done. I believe it is a very good training tool. I got your book a year or so ago when I was selling a lot on ebay. I’m getting back into selling on ebay and brushing up on some of your techniques. I may need some updates, etc. since I’ve been absent..

    Thanks

  9. August 25th, 2006 | 9:32 am

Wonderful video. This is better than buying Google Adwords because you know you final cost-just the cost of the featured item. Then, if you utilize you About Me Page the way you teach, more advertising. If you also have a store, they will discover that when they look at your listing as well. Thanks for keeping us up to date with new eBay techniques.

I hope to see many more of these “shorts” in the future.

I always wondered who in their right mind would feature an auction, especially for items that cost less than the featured fee. Now I see a method to the seeming madness!

Jim never fails to amaze me, his ideas are simple yet so efficient, no hype no BS, straight to the point and right there for the average person (considering the amount of $$$ people spend on buying materials and traffic these days)

    Hi Jim,
    Another fantastic tip.

I have a question - I sell cds and dvds, is it advisable to use featured plus if the item I\’m selling is for less than the price of featured plus?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ray

[[reply from Jim]]: only experimentation will tell for sure, but you have to have a way to \”monetize\” or make a profit from the traffic or it isn\’t worth the investment.  I\’ve been hearing from some eBay sellers that even the non featured auctions are showing up ranked well in Google. Monitor that as well!

  24. August 28th, 2006 | 12:47 pm

I noticed several months ago that I was getting traffic from Ebay listings through Google. I am not paying for the featured listing, and still am getting some exposure on Google.
There was a press release today that Google and Ebay have signed an extended contract for mutual advertising.
I use my About Me page and get significant hits on my Web Site from Ebay customers.
Thanks for the hints,,,,,they have been most helpful.

[[reply from Jim]]: we\’ve heard from others that are having the same result. It seems it doesn\’t always help to have a featured auction. Only experimentation will tell on a case by case basis. The good news is Google and eBay have partnered up and a lot of keyword rich ebay listing headers are showing up in the top 10!

    Hi Jim

    IT WORKS!!!

I have #1 in google with my ebay auction out of 52,300,000 results.

Web Results 1 - 10 of about 52,300,000 for _________ (edited for privacy by admin).

Thank you very much–got both your books a couple of months ago and trying to get an ebook written and newsletter. in the meantime using as many ideas as I can. Thanks for answering all my questions I have emailed to you.

We have been selling on ebay as our only source of family income for almost 10 years now and your ideas are amazing. After selling over 30,000 individual items and being a certified trainer for ebay-I thought I knew a lot—your training has made me look at everything from different ways and given me so many new ideas and better ways to do the things I now do.

I have printed all your info and past newsletters and continue to find new ideas as I reread them.

    Thanks again for everything

    tim

[[reply from Jim]]: Thanks for the glowing testimonial! I\’ve edited your post so that we don\’t give your idea away for copycats, but it was great seeing even more proof of the eBay/Google connection! Keep that mailing list growing! It will become your number one business asset.  If you ever have tips for me send them over - 10 years full-time on eBay is quite a track record!

  29. August 30th, 2006 | 4:12 pm

[…] Jim Cockrum, of Silient Sales Machines recently posted a video in his blog showing how the eBay Featured Plus Item option can get you massive exposure in Google. In the examples, he shows it’s easily possible to get a top ten position for a niche keyword within a week - one which would normally cost hundreds of dollars to maintain with an adwords campaign with the same keyword. Unfortunately, by the time google may have crawled and indexed your listing it may have ended, so if your considering using this technique to rely on extra traffic for your eBay auctions it’s pretty much essential to either maintain an ebay store or have a large number of listings active so users can jump to your other items - Ideally, both. […]

[[reply from Jim]]: The google indexing does take a few days to kick in, and some people seem to think that it only kicks in the last few days of the auction. The solution: Although testing is still being done it seems that extending your auction (after the google indexing kicks in) from 5 days to 10 days will allow you to get maximum benefit from the google strategy. If less than 12 hours remain you won\’t be able to extend your auctions because of eBay restrictions.

hi, great video. im wondering does ebay let you make a classified ad and make that a featured listing, you get the pic . affiliate marketing, ??? thanks

[[reply from Jim]]: the last time I checked you could make a classified ad a featured listing.

  31. October 26th, 2007 | 3:45 pm

Is this still true? I know this entry was created over a year ago. I have not seen as many ebay featured listings showing up in Google searches anymore. Have you noticed any changes in this in the past year, or are ebay featured listings still ranking high in google searches?
