Jim got Fired!
Wednesday, November 8th, 2006 - 2:23 pm
November 2002 was a big month for my family.
Four years ago this month I was FIRED from a great job. I was a good sales rep for my software company making what I thought was a decent income. A great base salary and plenty of commissions and incentives. A dream job for most people…
Getting fired is never good news for anyone with a wife, 2 kids (and my wife Andrea was pregnant with a third on the way), a mortgage and two hefty car payments.
Here’s how it happened:
I was a good employee with a nice salary, a good boss and I got good reviews. I was doing pretty well on eBay at the time though and I told my manager about it. My manager and upper management knew that I was making a pretty nice income on the Internet and eBay and that I would possibly be leaving the company at some point in the next few months. I wasn’t quite ready to make the leap though when I told them about my side biz.
Since I had a good relationship with management I asked them to let me know what sufficient notice of my departure would be - I didn’t want to just walk out on them one day.
They responded by firing me the day after I told them this. This isn’t a sob story though…
That was the best day in my entire career! I HAD to make my online business work - and I did.
This month (November 2006) marks the four year anniversary of that very significant career event for me.
I personally know hundreds of people who need only an Internet connection and occasionally a cell phone to run their entire mega online business. I’m one of them.
How’s my business doing you ask? Let’s just say that even in a slow month I earn about four to five months worth of my old salary pay.
Have you ever found yourself doubting that anyone is really making a good living using eBay and the Internet?
I’m proof that IT REALLY CAN HAPPEN to anyone willing to do a little work.
What do other people think of my approach to success on the Internet? Read what they say here:

FACT: There are over 750,000 people who call eBay a source of family income - many of them full-time.
I also know that among those 750,000 eBay success stories are many readers of my book and this newsletter and we share a common dream.
At no time in human history has it been easier to establish a successful business that reaches a worldwide audience. Let me show you how I did it and how you can too. Start 2007 with the goal of being financially self-sufficient…
Then let your boss fire you!
If you’ve been reading this newsletter awhile you may recognize that a version of this article has run before…but it’s a big month for me so I hope you’ll humor me!

Your firing was one of many blessings. It was the catylist that pushed you to become a SUPER achiever on eBay and the net!
Your story inspires me and I’m sure that it’ll inspire many others to make more lemonade when life gives you a BIG unexpected lemon!
Love and Blessings,
Dr. Steve
P.S.: Can you become successful on eBay and the net w/o a website/blog? I have severe cerebral palsy and low vision.
My dream is to raise millions for charity on eBay and the net. I know I CAN do it if I had the right software tools to do what I can’t do. What are your best suggestions?
Thanks again for the inspiration.
Jim,
Fantastic story, and we appreciate you sharing it. My wife and I are going to follow your lead and then we’ll get daring and share our success story with you as soon as we “learn to fly” also. What you said here gives a well reassurring spur of encouragement!! Thank you for bringing it home to us!
We wish you continuing success.
Hi Jim,
Your story is a true inspiration as I have just found out that the company I am employed with (full time) will be shutting the doors as of December 1st.
I have been an eBay part-timer for the last few years and have done ok at that level, I guess this is the boot in the behind that I need to get to the full time level.
The “Guy Upstairs” defiantly works in ways that we would never expect!
I too, like the good doctor have a mission to earn money for children in need - I am in the process of finishing the steps to form a non-profit that will generate proceeds from eBay as well as other sources.
Thanks again for the story! It’s nice to hear a positive story once in awhile amongst all the negative we seem to get bombarded with on a regular basis.
P.S.
Your publications are great!
Happy Fourth year anniversary,Jim. Great story! We ( my wife and I ) have a great start,it’s been you that has been our inspiration for our ebay business.
Both of us have had our problems, now unable to return to work, we thought we were done. Betten! We didn’t know anything about the web unlike you. At least you had an idea what you could do. But it must of been a very mixed up feeling for you the way they responded. “Just fire him! Thats what we’ll do,that will fix him”! What a thing to do to a person. I guess that’s the way businesses are today. Your just a number to them. That must of been terrible to have to bring back to your family. Honey I’m home and I got fired.WOW!
Hard to understand business today. If you really want a business you can count on. It’s imperative to start your own. That’s what we have found.
Only,After a couple of advertures on the internet did we come to a conclusion were we lost. We lost are pants on the first two adventures. Had no idea what to do.We had no experience on the internet at all.
Then we found you,Jim. Started to read everything you printed. We started to do some research. Started to be a believer again. You became our inspiration,a God send. We bought some of your ebay software that worked out great. Everything we have learned from you is starting to turn to gold.
Jim,I can’t even begain to tell you how much you have given us. We appricate all that you do. All the sharing, your insights, experience, your ebooks, just the excitment you give. It’s all just incredable for one person to keep giving. We have a life again becuase we started to believe. You have been a true blessing for us. Thanks for everything. Just a couple of friendly ebayers,Glen & Fran at rgems4u
