EBAY.COM CLASSIFIED AD FORMAT NOT FULLY AVAILABLE FOR WORLDWIDE EBAYERS?

Hello everyone. This is an awesome marketing venue but why aren't all the categories and price structures for the classified ad format found on ebay.com available to all ebayers from other countries?

I live in Canada and was discouraged when I discovered that the only "Classified Ad Format" listings available to me as a Canadian ebayer were the real estate ads. And those all cost well over a hundred dollars.

I'm willing to bet this is the case in other countries as well.

I understand ebay is a corporation and that corporations may make some short sighted moves without considering the broader implications of their actions. And, I imagine they created these ads to attract even more profits from people who may not be comfortable making the usual auction listings.

But, what I can't understand is why, as a corporation, ebay doesn't open this new marketing venue up to the international community so they can make even more profits for their share holders.

I would like to ask all international ebayers reading this post to get in touch with their country's ebay contacts and let them know that you would like to have all of the classified ad format features found on ebay.com implemented on their country's sites.

    Thank you,

    P.S. As always Jim…great newsletter. :)

    Hello Jim,

I want to thank you for bringing to light the NEW Classified Advertising format on Ebay.

One thing I wanted to bring up is Ebays Featured listings. You have mentioned before that this is a great way to generate traffic because not only does it stand out from the other listings in the category you are listing in (it is at the top of the search page), but in very little time it will also show up with top billing in the Google search for the product.

When you list your product in Ebays featured listing, it is only there for 3, 5, 7 or 10 days, however long your listing is for.

Now with the Classified Ads, since they fall right along side the other auction and fixed listings, if you list your Classified Ad as a Featured Item ($19.95) it will show up at the top of the search category foe an ENTIRE MONTH.

As you mentioned in your second video, comparing this expense to Googles Pay Per Click Program, it is dirt cheap.

Now I just yesterday (12-12-06) placed my Ad (I don’t know if you want to show its location but if you would, just do a search in all categories for Louis Allport, mine is the one at the very top), so I have not been able to judge the effectiveness yet, but like you, I am very excited about the potential.

    Have a fantastic day everyone,

    Steve Dougherty

I'm here in the US. From what I understand, the Classified Ad format has existed for years on eBay.com for only the Real Estate category (until recently). Even in some leftover help pages, automated eBay emails, and policies pages you can now sometimes see it still referred to as "Real Estate Format".

Earlier in 2006, eBay.com allowed the format to be used in another couple dozen categories – the ones we see available to us now. I'm guessing this release was something of a "beta" this year and eBay is still evaluating Ad Format's use on eBay. Maybe they'll then release it to more countries and/or more categories.

Two blondes were going to Disneyland when they came to a fork in the road. The sign read: "Disneyland Left."

    So they went home.
