Since “eBay Live” I’ve been looking into “Exponent Trading”
Thursday, June 21st, 2007 - 8:09 pm
Exponent Trading is a new company launching Midnight Sunday June 24th 2007. They have a very impressive marketing model and from what I can tell a very qualified executive staff. I’m typically very anti-network marketing, but I keep finding more and more I like about this company. They’ve integrated with eBay to pull off a pretty impressive product that makes it easy for anyone to get started selling on eBay.
I suggest you get in NOW if you can. Use this link to view a video about the company and the opportunity:

I’ve turned down hundreds of invitations to join other “network marketing” companies because the program didn’t benefit the “new guy” from day one. For example - we all know of vitamin companies that charge $90 per month for $20 vitamins just so the upline can profit. Not so with Exponente…
With Exponent Trading the new guy gets access to an amazing and growing collection of video and personal training about eBay and online success so it’s worth the price of admission from DAY ONE.
Stay tuned for more info…

Jim,
As one of the “good guys” among internet gurus, I am surprised to see you recommending an MLM program. I am open to the idea because it is coming from you, but would like to see a bit more “meat” in your explanation of why you recommend this when your basic position is “anti network marketing.”
[[reply from Jim]]: Good observation…I’ve been VERY “anti-network marketing” for several years. I’ve turned down litteraly hundreds of offers to join MLM’s and even help launch MLM’s, but I think if you listen to the audio link above you’ll get a solid “meaty” answer to why I’m backing Exponent Trading at this time. They are in launch phase and things can go wrong sometimes, but as a business model it is sound. They have an amazing executive team, and more importantly, they have a great offer for “the little” guy that is just getting started with them. In other words, even if you don’t “recruit” anyone you are getting a GREAT deal.
Hi Jim,
I really enjoyed you silent sales machine ebook and your newsletter as well. I was intruiged when you mentioned exponent trading and decided to take a look. However, I wanted to play a little devils advocate here after watching the video again.
After watching the video twice I am still left wondering what exactly it is that we are getting here even as you mention that we don’t “recruit” anyone?
The 1st portion of the business model initially looks like a listing service to me as they have no wholesale products at this time ready to go and it also mentioned “making money” by listing other peoples products basically as a trading agent which I can already do with Ebay not to mention Ebay’s affiliate program and I don’t have to go out and do all the work of trying to find, photograph, and then list other peoples things they may want to get rid of. This portion of their business model seems weak to me in many aspects of looking at what Ebay itself already offers.
To me, it seems that there is not really anything that new with the 1st aspect of the business opportunity. But, of course I have other profitable ideas as to get around the selling excess things issue.
I do “get” the team concept in the second part of this business opportunity but I am still struggling what the opportunity is if you don’t “recruit” anyone as you mentioned.
Keep up the great newsletter and blog Jim and thanks for any comments!
Best Regards,
Tom
[[reply from Jim]]: It sounds like you have some experience selling on eBay so I’ll answer from that perspective. I’m sorry if I seemed to have implied that you can’t or don’t “recruit” because you can now recruit new eBay sellers and get paid very well to do so! One of the biggest complaints I often hear from active eBay sellers is that they are approached frequently by people with little knowledge of eBay asking questions and requesting help getting started. Let’s face it -eBay is a proven opportunity and nearly everyone knows that. What most people still don’t know though is how to get into themselves. That’s one way Exponent helps an experienced seller like you. You have somewhere to send “newbies” and know that they will be taken care of as they learn the ropes. You’ll also get access to ever increasing advanced strategies as taught by several eBay and Internet experts that are on board already. Think of exponent as the traditional eBay affiliate program with more power behind it. Instead of only getting paid to refer people to eBay you can now get paid for everyone they refer as well - seven levels deep. Unlike the traditional FREE eBay affiliate program you do have to pay to get in on this…but it’s a small price to pay if you only turn on a few new (or even experienced) eBay users with your efforts! With Exponent Trading it’s like the old eBay affiliate program just got way more attractive!
Ah, the lure of easy money.
This may all turn out wonderfully, but I think this has some baggage to overcome.
Biz ops are notorious for being created to soak the gullible or ignorant. They paint pretty pictures and make it all seem simple and easy.
Network marketing or MLM is an idea which has shown in countless examples to have no long-term longevity. No matter who is with the company or what the product is, the focus always comes down to the money and not the business. And when you focus just on the money instead of the business, soon both are gone.
As far as sellers profiting from their experience or helping others, they can write books as you’ve done or be an affiliate for ebay info products.
This will probably grow very fast, there will be abuses, the government will step in, and the program will be gutted.
Jim, I don’t doubt your integrity or sincerity, but I don’t think this the answer for “the little guy”.
[[reply from Jim]] Thanks for that little ray of sunshine David!! ;0) Read my post from Sunday July 1st - I think you might fall into the category of folks that I encourage NOT to join…and we can still be friends! I think Exponent will become a world class membership site full of the most creative eBay sellers on the planet. I also think the eBay affiliate program finally makes sense because of Exponent, but I WELCOME your opposing viewpoint!
Jim,
Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm as a non-networker about the exponent trading concept
and our founding team. I’m a non-ebayer, so to speak, but have become fascinated with the whole concept of selling a few dollars of products each month and seeing that develop into a large business. I look at it as a slam dunk and am eager to begin.
My background is corporate marketing in the food industry, but found the networking model intriguing and joined into Excel Communications in the mid-ninties. So began a whole new chapter in my life.I was very successful in the business. I know all of the founders personally and didn’t waste a second in accepting the challenge to learn ebay selling and teach a FEW others to do the same thing.
The whole concept of networking is to find a FEW people and help them to learn a simple concept and likewise help them to find a FEW others who would like to do the same.
For me personally, I do not see any negatives in the program either and am very eager to see this grow in the same manner as Excel, which became the no.4 long distance company(following ATT,MCI,and Sprint) in a very short time. Thanks you your affirmation of Exponent Trading to your network of followers. Get ready to see an explosion in the the industry. I encourage all Ebay sellers to research network marketing and JUST introduce a few ebay associates or acquaintenances to the program. I truly believe that Ebay and Exponent Trading will create a whole new paradigm in ecommerce. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us,the Networking neophytes jumping onboard this exciting new business venture.
So, welcome to tomorrow.
