The “no fail” approach to Internet success

“Right now there are one hundred dollar bills (Benjamins) blowing around in the wind. Go get some!”

If you hang out with me very long you’ll hear me say something along those lines.

That’s a nice image isn’t it? Sort of goes against the popular trend towards gloom and doom though…

If you are an entrepreneur living in 2009 and have an Internet connection then the above statement is quite true.

So the next question you might ask then is this…

If there are so many ways to succeed online why am I failing so far?

There are only TWO possible ways to fail and one of them is happening to you if you’ve failed so far.

One of the ways to fail is to give up too soon. That one is obvious (but happens all the time), and the ONLY other possibility is this…

You must not be listening to the right advice!

How do you know who is giving good advice?

I’ve just made a recording that you can use to help filter out the advice you do and don’t listen to about online success.

CAUTION: I’m raising the standard VERY high in this recording and I’m about to talk you out of listening to a lot of the people that you might currently consider to be your Internet leaders.

Hold me to the same high standard.

Do your “experts” pass this SIMPLE test?

Listen to the 4 minute audio here:

After you listen please leave me a comment below…

UPDATE August 25, 2009: After I made the above recording I discovered IMReportCard.com. That site uses feedback from the general public to rank all of the so called “Internet experts”.  I’m honored to be at the top of the list of HUNDREDS of other highly respected internet business professionals according to feedback from the thousands of contributing customers that have given their feedback. I’m honored, but I’m also enjoying using the list to find other creative marketers that I can learn from!

Nice audio. You gave me a way to check out “gurus” that is simple to use. I already was highly suspicious of any who don’t post their name and direct contact with their marketing hype.

Jim, thanks for the great guidelines on finding a ‘guru’ - I wish that word Guru wasn’t so over used on the Internet….

If I was looking for help with my business, I really have no intentions of climbing the Himilias looking for enlightment - LOL

If someone is looking to build their online business and what to hire a guru another thing they should ask is exactly what service are they offering? Is the service mentoring, coaching or consulting? Each one of those services is different. It may be that your business needs a coach or mentor - or it may be that the business doesn’t need any coaching, what it really needs is some good old marketing help or someone to help with a specialized knowledge to help with a particular project.

    True That Jim!

There are only a few that I really trust to get info from, yourself being one of my fav’s and one of the first I came across some 3 years ago when I first entered the world on Internet business, via ebay. First it was Skip McGrath, great product. Then I branched away from ebay (still work with it as well) into Internet Marketing when I found your Silent Sales Machine.

Thanks Jim for sayin’ it like it is!

    Jim,

Appreciate the insights and tips you offer.

All too often I meet people, yet do not use due diligence to investigate the truth behind the person.

    Thanks so much..

You are my lead guru Jim, closely followed by John Thornhill who I am sure that you also recommend strongly. Although I am slowly getting there it is only do to my own lack of skills at the beginning, but I have started to have just a few successes and would encourage everybody to join “My Silent Team”

Jim, thank you for your comments about “gurus” or so-called “gurus”. I wish there was a way that your post and audio on this subject was required for any one wanting to try the internet marketing game. It would certainly save folks a great deal of time, money and frustration.

Thanks for always telling it like it is.

Great advice and very timely. The only thing I would have added to that is something that has saved me from getting scammed a few times.

Check the BBB. People don’t think of that. Businesses don’t have to be a memeber of the BBB in order to register a complaint about them.

If there is a complaint, the BBB will show the letter(s) stating the complaint, tell you how many complaints have been made, how many were resolved, who owns the business, how many businesses they are running and every name (of business) they are using.

Point in fact, there is a man who has 6 different ‘business in a box’ programs. They are all heavily promoted who has more than 187 complaints filed on him!

If you buy from this man…you brought it on yourself with this information available with a few clicks.

The BBB is a two edged sword. If you’re considering doing business with someone and there are no complaints or just a few that have all been resolved, it gives you more confidence that this person is for real.

Just my two cents. Sorry this is so long. Guess you can tell I’ve been scammed a few times and changed the way I do things. :)

    Thanks for you help!

    Hey jim
I am a subscriber of yours and I really appreciate your content and your blog
which is why I am sending you this link from these people selling their “Silent Sales Machine”.
I dont know if you own that term or not but you immediately came to mind when I heard it.
Just feel like you have helped me, and I want to return the favour.
    The link is below
    Regards
    Rob

[reply from Jim]:thanks for sending me that link. We’ll look into it, but I doubt there is anything wrong with them doing that.

    Hi, Jim,

You’ve just helped me thin out my inbox. I have no idea where all these people get my email address, but I’m inundated with offers, most involving the “latest and greatest” software that does everything and I don’t have to do a thing. Funny — I’ve kept track over the last six months — how these gurus fade into oblivion after a couple months or so.

ps ;I bought and read your silent sales machine combo constantly good work

The very term ‘guru’ has developed a negative connotation in my mind. Only a few ‘pros’ are worthy of spending time (let alone money) on, and Mr. Jim Cockrum tops the list. Thanks for your integrity in a world of hype, Jim.

[reply from Jim]: Integrity is the EASY path in business. It’s sort of the same benefit as telling the truth…you don’t have to constantly remember everything you said for fear of contradicting yourself.

  16. August 27th, 2009 | 9:13 am

    Hi Jim,

I have been a member for many years and I read everythign you write. Last night I was at a meeting where an “Internet Guru” was making speech to a group of about 120 people. I did something I never did before. I stayed and asked questions and got about 20 others to do the same.

His name is Dan H and he answered all our questions. I was listening to his replys and the smooth, confident way he had of expressing himself. Something about him was very familiar. I finally had to ask if he’d ever heard of Jim Cockrum. Without hesitation, he told everyone there that you were one of his idols. You were part of the reason he got into his field, and he is very successful at what he does.

Needless to say, I was impressed and had to come here to post what I experienced. I’ve been involved in quite a few opportunities where the leaders vanished after making their money on the unsuspecting students. Thankfully I have become a student of yours and can distinguish the difference between something real or fake. Because of your advise, i am finally in a real opportunity with an 18 year track record and I am finally going to succeed at an Internet Business.

Thank you very much for all your efforts to help others. That is now what I will be doing and it is the cornerstone of the new venture I have just begun.

[reply from Jim]: Wow - great story. I wish I knew who this guy is…he needs to get some better idols! ;0)

Hi Jim, I have been scammed so many times that in my in-box I probably have the names of every “guru” since the beginning of the internet(thank you Al Gore), but I keep gravitating back to your blogs.
I have found one key word that roots out most of the scammers, they all have a “System”, when I hear “system” I am out of there. I don’t think that you have used this word, so I’m hanging in.
I am not trying to get rich on the internet, just trying to get an income that will help supplement my SS money. You sound almost too legitimate and down to earth to be true, but I am going to bite the bullet again and purchase your book, because of all the great things that I have read about you. Your statement is true, I have not heard one negative statement about you. Thank You.

    Hi Jim

Thanks for that valuable information. There is a challenge on the first point you made which is giving up too soon. I have been trying for a couple of years and have found that as a newbie you buy a specific product, which then in turn needs a another one to make the first product work at its optimum and then you have more marketers emailing you until finally you give up because you receiving too much information and too many links to assist you or take you off your path. I will take your advice and research these ‘gurus’ Hope I don’t spend all my time researching. If I join and become a member is this information for people who are new to internet marketing as well ?

    Thanks,Brendan

A community of success built on trust…I like that Jim! Perhaps it’s time for ME to stop being a “LONE RANGER” and to start developing some relationships with those people you trust…The expert advisors on MySilent Team and Offline Biz…I am a proud member of both…
