The Power of 3 in Your Business

I don’t care who you are or what business you are in there is one SIMPLE success rule I use personally all the time that can propel ANY business forward quickly yet it is rarely pursued as seriously as it should be.

Applying this rule is EXACTLY how I’ve grown my email list so large. It’s also the same strategy I see NEARLY EVERY successful online entrepreneur using.

That simple rule is to find “win/win/win” opportunities (also called “3 way wins”).

You’ve heard of Win/Win before, but online there is a third party that must always be considered and that is the AUDIENCE.

Let me give you an example.

I have a large mailing list of readers (including you). I’m CONSTANTLY approached by people that would LOVE to put their message in front of you and PAY ME for advertising (I don’t take paid ads), or pay me to promote their products by splitting the profit with me etc.

Unlike many of the other “big list” owners in this business though I don’t jump on every bandwagon opportunity in order to line my pockets with every new big dollar launch that comes down the pike. Instead I use a filter that only lets through what I consider to be the BEST OF THE BEST IDEAS.

There are actually experts in this industry that WILL NOT promote anything to their readers/followers unless it will pay them out a minimum commission of thousands of dollars. Is that really serving your audience?

Maybe my different approach I take is part of the reason I’m ranked as the #1 most trusted online expert among hundreds of Internet experts at IMreportCard.com. Reputation is EVERYTHING online.

I’m only interested in true WIN WIN WIN opportunities regardless of the price tag. The three parties that must all share in the win are; 1. you (my readers), 2. the person with a product or message to share, and 3. me as the list owner.

If you don’t yet have an audience you are in a slightly different position when using the win/win/win strategy, but the advice is still the same. To grow quickly find 3 way wins.

What does this mean in the real world?

Find ways to partner with people that have the traffic you need. Make the owner of the list (or popular website, or busy business) look GREAT in the eyes of his audience and in return you get access to the audience and expose them to YOUR ideas.

Some examples and tips:

o Search google, bing, yahoo or youtube for terms related to your niche and find the 50 top websites, experts and email list owners for your niche idea. Think of ways to make these influential people look good, while getting your message out.

o Find influential people and websites with audiences that OVERLAP yours. For example, one recreational vehicle company (RV) successfully teamed up with a company that sold insurance to aging clients.

o Write an article that is informative with great content and also includes a way to join your mailing list at the bottom of the article. Give this article to popular websites, experts or email list owners in your niche. Getting an “opt-in” page for email list growth is simple to do – check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzdemYscFhY

o Record an interview with a “non-techie” expert in your niche. Mention your opt-in page as part of the interview. Give the expert a copy of the interview and also pass it around to people in your niche that have an audience.

o Write an entire quality ebook and GIVE it to an expert with a large audience. Consider putting THEIR NAME right on the cover and GIVE it to them. Inside the book mention your mailing list as the place to go for more information. Request that the expert pass the book out while keeping the references to your website or email list intact inside the book.

o Put your spin on a hot news story or popular topic and submit your thoughts via a press release to major news outlets. Be sure to include your email opt-in page in the article (see above video from point #3).

o If you sell your information from your website you MUST have an affiliate program in place that automatically pays people to promote your products. I use clickbank.com to automatically manage the entire process.

These are just a few creative ideas to get you thinking correctly about the possibilities.  Have other ideas or questions? Leave a comment below.

    Hi Jim

    Leveraging the power of a big marketer’s list is a great way for the little guy to grow his business rapidly.
    Traditionally this means promoting the big marketer’s product to my small list and then hoping he is prepared to reciprocate by promoting my product to his big list.
    This strategy works but the traffic surge lasts for a few days only and then drops off.
    Here is the same idea with a twist;
    I promote the big marketer’s product to my list but instead of banking my 50% commission I email the marketer and suggest he keep it. In return I ask him to add my product to his autoresponder follow up sequence. As an additional sweetener I also set up an exclusive discount for his subscribers only and I write the email copy.
    The net result is a very nice 3 way win;
    The big marketer pockets several hundred dollars he would otherwise have paid out to me in commission, he earns 50% commission on every sale of my product to his list and he enjoys the appreciation of his subscribers for negotiating an exclusive discount off my product (he also gets all of this without having to do any work!).
    The big marketer’s subscribers win by getting a great discount off a quality product.
    I win because my promo email is now in the big marketer’s a/r sequence so the traffic doesn’t drop off after a few days.
    If I capture just 1 new subscriber per day (very conservative) I add 365 in a year, using the benchmark valuation of $1 per month per subscriber this exercise adds $4380 to my income every year.

    Hi Jim,

    Great post about leveraging your traffic and sales. Finding potential partners to help each other’s businesses is really a good idea to grow the business rapidly. Just have to make sure that both of the marketers offer excellent products. In record time, both of them will enjoy the rewards, plus it’s a win/win/win situation for both of the marketers, and the subscribers for having special discounts.
