Online Success in 50 words or less

What advice would you have for someone that is desperate to earn an income online? The catch is this…

You have to answer them with around 50-70 words.

o Look into selling other people’s stuff on eBay (consignment selling). Advertise your service cheaply locally and specialize. Don’t get trapped into selling cheap junk. Go after big ticket items and keep at least 30-40%. There is plenty of this business out there right now.

o Find a partner that has a trusted reputation, potential to be followed by thousands, but is afraid of the Internet. Help them get their stuff online. Every expert knows they should be doing this, but many never have. Use this success formula: Step 1. Give away great content and grow your email list.  Step 2. Ask the list what they want Step 3. Over deliver what they want at a great price.

o Join MySilentTeam.com and go through the bonus pool FILLED with fantastic ideas. Discuss your ideas and challenges in the forums with the other thousands of users.

o Talk to local businesses about helping them with their Internet marketing needs. You already know far more than they do. Ask a bunch of questions and you’ll find many ways you can help them out. Something as simple as setting up and running a facebook page for them could be both beneficial and lucrative for you both. Joining OfflineBiz.com (6,000+ members) will give you a community and support that you need to flourish in this type of business.

o Similar to previous idea, but with a different approach. Find local business websites that rank well on the search engines, but lack one key feature to their website…EMAIL CAPTURE. Help them set up and manage the only marketing tool that gives back $50 for every $1 spent. EMAIL! OfflineBiz.com has details on this simple biz model as well.

o Produce SIMPLE yet high quality free content (articles, video, blog etc.) on any “big niche” topic such as:

  • health/weight loss
  • relationships
  • self help
  • crisis management (i.e. divorce etc.)
  • business/income/debt etc.
  • cooking

… and all the while grow your mailing list while GIVING away great content. There are countless ways to monetize such a list. Be truly helpful and useful for your readers and they’ll want more an more of what you have to offer.

I don’t have any ideas what to do but I certainly have idea of what NOT TO DO. I applied for EPN account and was accepted. I was unable to use the account for a while. In June 2010, I began promoting eBay products and in 6 weeks I gradually built up my clicks to eBay to approx 450 and Income to $50. The amount of clicks was increasing daily and then I got an email giving me 3 days to remove all eBay links from my sites and they were terminating my account because it was dormant and inactive. This is a lie. I responded to the email and was told that the decision was final and they would not reconsider. This is the thanks I get for having a eBay seller account with well over 10,000 transactions and only one negative feedback. What ever happened to honesty and ethics? Bitter? Yes David

Look at problems that you’ve had and solved — the more painful, the better. You’ll probably have to think hard to find some; we usually take our successes for granted and dwell on our obstacles. Find a way to package your solution for others.

I DEFINITELY agree on joining MySilenTeam!
BUT if I had little income to play with…
*Sell things for free on Craigslist
*Sign myself up for FIVERR.com and sell some of my skills for $5 a time.
*Use Craigslist to find things for free to resell!

    Just a few ideas!

BEST OF LUCK TO THOSE WHO TAKE ACTION

My number one piece of advice would be to visit different forums and find someone who is doing exactly the same thing you are and has a teacher’s heart. Someone whose main goal is to help and values you agree with. And the latch on and do what they do to help you get to the next level.

1 Start with eBay, research it and find a way to make money with it (doesn’t have to be new or unique)

    2 Do the method.

3 Write eBook explaining the method.

4 Partner with established marketer to promote eBook.

5 Build list on back of eBook.

    6 Nurture list.

7 Recommend products as an affiliate to list.

    8 Rinse and repeat.

9 Quit day job and do it full time.

Spend money wisely. There is NO magic bullet system that will make you successful overnight. Stop chasing that and use your money to learn solid basic skills.

    Reread Lisa’s answer!!!!

That’s my answer but I’ll add – if you need to improve your skills go to the experts in that area. Come here for a well rounded education. Pay for a membership in Silent Sales Team. Need video skills? Go to Andy Jenkins. Need copywriting? Go to John Carlton or Lorrie Ferarro. Yeah it’s expensive – but in the end it’s a lot less than all those $47 Clickbank and WF things that will only teach you a little part of what you need to know. Pay for a quality education and then apply it to your business. And ignore all those bright shiny objects along the way.

For me, it should be list building.

    - Focus on list building.

    - Whatever you do online, build your list. Do article marketing, forum posting, blog commenting, guest blogging, and any other things, but you should build your list.

    - You won’t be successful, and you won’t have a stable business if you don’t have a list.

[reply from Jim]: great point Gary – crucial point really.

Hi I have a product that I wish to sell online as well as offline. It’s fun, practical, would make a great gift and is handmade by local under privileged people here where I live in South Africa.

My problem is I don’t know where to start. I have been approached here by a distributor, who wants to sell it locally, which is promising. However I’m not sure on the best way to go forward online. Ebay? Website? both? build a list?

Any help would be appreciated. Funds are limited.

    Thanks all.

This is my first ever blog! Wow!

US workers are so self-defeating. The unions don’t seem to care about the state of the economy. How about creating wealth instead of destroying it individuals?
