Sellers treated a bit like children at eBay Live 2008

…but I still LOVE the eBay opportunity. I can give you 84 million reasons why.

It was great meeting several of the readers of my blog and newsletter at eBay Live 2008 this year, but that was BY FAR the highlight for me.

There is a positive spin to all of this, but can I vent for a minute?

So, how was eBay Live 2008 Chicago you ask?

Insulting, poorly attended, boo’ing from the crowd at the keynote address, a “downer”, new restrictive policies coming out of the woodwork…seemingly “making it up as we go” attitudes from eBay presenters…should I go on?

eBay Live 2008 wasn’t the upbeat exciting event of the long lost “good ol’ days” of… oh, about 2 years ago, but I don’t think anyone expected much more than what it was since eBay has been changing policies and beating up sellers for seemingly for sport for the last few months.

One of the sessions I attended (seriously) had the title:

“How to keep from breaking the most commonly broken eBay policies”.

Are you kidding me? If you are going to slap us around at least call the class “eBay is so sorry for the hundreds of new policies”

I also saw some of the “best of the best” eBay sellers being treated to the unofficial “kinder friendlier” rules. eBay sellers that are BIG enough and have been around long enough get to do things that the rest of can’t do. Things like making your ID a domain name. Unfair.BUT…

eBay remains a MASSIVE opportunity and is still by FAR the best place to find an audience of eager customers. Until eBay figures out a way to mess that up it’s still the place to be…

I’ve just updated my book “Silent Sales Machine” to reflect the new policies of eBay. Some of the policies are so recent that I had to add on a 15 minute audio update on the resource page of the book.

I’m staying on top of all of it though so you don’t have to.

One of the aspects of my position that I take very seriously is to make sure I promote only the BEST products and services. I turn away many GOOD products and promote only the GREAT ones. I love it when someone takes the time to notice the effort.

Have all your books….Love your newsletter. Yes, I have taken lots of action on what you suggest in your newsletter and in your books. My wife and I (she is CEO) have a successful IT Infrastructure company with 10 employees. We are the company that set up server rooms run the wiring for phone systems and computers. Also, we have full time employees creating multiple streams of income on the web for us. Including 450 Geo-Target websites. We use (and have bought) and love the last 3 tools you suggested. Micro-Niche Finder, 1st Promotion and the Video Niche. Keep up the good work, your advice is spot on target and really is effective. Oh..btw we use your idea of eBay classified ads to create leads every month and to capture email addresses. One of the best ideas you have ever had. We put our keywords in the title and we are on the first page of Google consistently.
