I was invited to be the headline speaker at one of the largest wholesale trade shows on the planet – ASD in Vegas happened last weekend.
ASD draws a massive international crowd (45,000+ attending), and I can confidently report back to you that a "shift" is occurring in your favor if you are an online entrepreneur with even the most basic of online selling skills.
The world of traditional retail is waking up to the reality of what customers want – increasingly, consumers want to shop online and WE as online entrepreneurs know how the game is played better than anyone.
For event organizers to have invited a noted Ecom/Amazon/eBay author (me) to be the headliner at a traditionally "brick and mortar" retail wholesale event is a clear indicator of the level of respect and attention our industry is receiving in the retail marketplace.
Partnership opportunities abound – and they (wholesalers, manufacturers, retailers) need us. Better yet they now KNOW they need us. Better yet still – they need us far more than we need them!
- We had a line three hours long of people waiting to talk to the team and I afterwards – and we waited and talked to each of them. Many were vendors or retailers and they wanted help with Amazon and ecommerce.
- Vendors were more open to creative partnerships than I’ve ever seen before (i.e. ProvenProductPartnering.com types of strategies where we set up an Amazon account for them and help manage it for a percentage of sales.)
- Wholesalers were eager in many cases to talk to someone who could help them navigate Amazon as an exclusive partner.
…and perhaps the best indicator —
ASD organizers told us they are eager to have us back based on attendee response! I’m grateful for the invitation and am proud to have been associated with the world class team that runs the ASD event. I’m flattered by the attention to detail as well (Molly our liaison was fantastic!)
Question: Should you attend traditional wholesale/retail selling events at least occasionally?
Answer: Probably – and ASD is a great one. I’m changing my mind in a positive direction about these types of events because the partnership opportunities abound.
The value of events like this is the power of face to face interaction with those who you are trying to grow with and build a business with. Face to face encounters cannot be replaced by any other form of communication. It’s timeless human nature.
Keep an eye on JimCockrumEvents.com for our live events aimed directly at online entrepreneurs like you and me. The next big one is our own CES event slated this year for Sept 2016. It has sold out in one day every year since we started doing it. This year probably won’t be an exception.
