If you need to get to a destination, would you rather move at 5mph, 50mph or 500mph? (or Kilometers per hour for our non-US friends!)
Business is about people and relationships and not all forms of communication are equal when it comes to building relationships.
I think of it this way:
- Text, online messages or email moves a relationship forward at 5 miles per hour.
- Phone calls move the relationship at 50 mph.
- Live interaction moves the relationship at 100 mph.
This isn’t “Jim opinion” this is universal human nature truth (although I made up the speeds, you get my point).
How often do you meet up with partners, contacts and prospects?
How often do you even get on the phone with potential partners or prospects?
One of the biggest mistakes you can make as an “internet business person” is to think that email and social posts are ALL the interaction you’ll need to make it. Sure, we all love instant communication via text/email etc. (and it’s great for MAINTAINING relationships), but that’s snail pace progress if that’s all you’ve got!
I’m an introvert by nature, so I get it. Many of us in online business are happy “alone” – but… that’s no excuse.
Get out there!
In a world that barely looks up from their screens, you’ll be light years ahead by asking a few interesting questions and making a few new friends that you can look in the eye while building something beautiful together!
Side note: We are in the final planning process of setting up virtual meeting mastermind groups for our coaching students for this very reason. Stay tuned for more details on that.
